Disciple Bible Studies

 

       “A Bible Study Aimed at Transformation – Not Just Information”

The DISCIPLE Bible Study program is an exciting opportunity for everyone – regardless of your level of bible knowledge! The classes are designed to develop strong Christians through the in-depth study of Scripture. Through DISCIPLE, you will be strengthened in your faith and guided into service and ministry. Strong, biblically nourished members will help our church grow in vitality and Christian discipleship. But, you do not have to be a member of First United Methodist of Elgin or even a Methodist – or even a Christian – to enjoy these exciting studies. Many couples have enjoyed strengthened relationships by taking classes together. 

DISCIPLE 1:   BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY

A 34-week study that moves through the biblical story from Creation to the New Jerusalem. The hoped-forresults of the program are to develop biblically nourished people committed to live as disciples. If you haven’t completed this course, join it at the point where your previous class left off.  Pre-requisite:  None.

DISCIPLE 1:BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY-Youth Edition 

This is a YOUTH version of the adult study, which is written on a more appropriate level for high school youth. Elgin FUMC offers this class to high school Juniors & Seniors only. As in the adult version, it is a 34-week study that moves through the biblical story from Creation to the New Jerusalem. The hoped-for results of the program are to develop biblically nourished persons committed to living as disciples.  Pre-requisite: none.  

DISCIPLE 2:   INTO THE WORD INTO THE WORLD (for all ages)

A 32-week study of Genesis ­Exodus and Luke ­Acts prepared for adult and youth graduates of DISCIPLE 1: BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY. This study emphasizes the rhythm of coming to God and going for God, of being in the Word and in the world individually and corporately.  Pre-requisite: You must have completed Disciple 1 or Disciple 1 Youth.

DISCIPLE 3:   REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE (for all ages)

A 32-week study of The Prophets and The Letters of Paul available to adults and youth who are graduates of DISCIPLE 1: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study.  Pre-requisite: You must have completed Disciple 1 or Disciple 1 Youth.

DISCIPLE 4: UNDER THE TREE OF LIFE (For all ages)

A 32-week study of Old Testament Writings and the Gospel of John; 1,2,3 John; James; Jude and Revelation in the New Testament. This phase of Disciple is available to adult and youth graduates of DISCIPLE 1: BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY. It continues to call clergy and laity to serious, disciplined Bible study that will result in development of biblically nourished servant-leaders.  Pre-requisite: You must have completed Disciple 1 or Disciple 1 Youth.
