Dear FUMC Elgin Family,
It is with great joy and anticipation that we announce the appointment of our new full time pastor, Pastor Michael Bell. Michael is a devoted and passionate servant of the Lord. Michael has a rich history of service and ministry that exemplifies his commitment to faith and community.
Michael has been under full-time appointment for 21 years, demonstrating unwavering dedication to the United Methodist Church and its mission. His pastoral journey includes:
- Hilda United Methodist Church (2016-2024)
- Wesley Trinity United Methodist Church (2005-2016)
- Barnett Chapel United Methodist Church (2003-2005)
Michael completed the UMC Course of Study School at Perkins in 2009, further deepening his theological education and pastoral skills. Before his ministry, he was self-employed in the restaurant catering business from 1982 to 2003, bringing a wealth of real-world experience to his pastoral work.
Throughout his ministry, Michael has achieved significant milestones and contributed to various initiatives:
- Served as a Board Member of West Texas Counseling and Guidance (2011-2016).
- Acted as Chairperson of the Daily Bread Lunch Program (2005-2016).
- In 2014, he successfully led the merger of Wesley and Trinity United Methodist Churches in San Angelo.
- Participated in the Kairos Prison Ministry, offering hope and spiritual guidance to incarcerated individuals.
- Actively involved in the Mason County Ministerial Alliance and volunteered at the Mason County Food Bank.
We are thrilled to have Michael join us in our mission to extend God’s love and support to our neighbors. His extensive experience and heartfelt commitment to service will undoubtedly enrich our outreach programs and inspire us all.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, we are excited to welcome Pastor Michael’s wife, Joya Bell, and their beloved dog, Penny. Michael has been married to Joya since 2011. Joya, a former Catholic who joined the UMC in 2009, graduated from Texas Women’s University with a B.S. in Fashion Merchandising.
